How do you write a story about the whole world turning upside down and make it believable?
Through Raging Waters is about the small town of Timber Springs, Wyoming. This close-knit tiny town faces destruction from a cataclysmic spring runoff and inner turmoil. The effect isn’t smooth and transitional, it’s chaotic and life-changing. How do you write a story about such an event?
You hang on and let it take you for a ride.
There are no isolated events in small towns such as Timber Springs. What impacts one impacts all. Think of a stone tossed in a pond. The ripples spread outward and soon the entire surface is disrupted. It’s this type of scenario which causes the chaos you see from floods in small towns. But you also see other things as well.
I had to capture these traits in my story. But not only was the town this intertwined, but I had a family just as close. The Fitzgerald siblings are unique in many aspects. They are Christian but grieving the loss of their mother.
Four of the seven are twins, two fraternal and two identical. The oldest son is a preacher and the youngest daughter is adopted. And one is a control-freak. They are a menagerie of personalities and traits. They may love one another but they don’t really know each other as well as they think they do. The storms and flood bring out the worst and best in the siblings that are in Through Raging Waters.
This book is an adventure from page one. Every character plays a part, big or small. Why? Because in a small town, you live and breathe the same air. You’re connected. Do you like everybody? No, but you survive. It’s the nature of the wild.
And with the Lord, the wild meets the Forgiven.
